First days rice pudding

I refer to this dish as the new mothers/parents colostrum. After birth, easy to digest accessible energy is needed. This dish is full of stabilising fats, spices and iron building sweetness, and is a staple breakfast and snack for at least the next 14 days (or 6 weeks) to help ground, soothe and satiate. This is simple to make, however the cooking time is at least 2 hours, the more hours, the better.

Makes 4 Servings

  • 16 cups pure water

  • 1 cup white basmati rice

  • 1 cup of ghee or sesame oil

  • ½ cup Molasses sugar

  • 2 tsp ginger powder

  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder

  • ½ tsp clove powder

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • 2 tsp turmeric powder

  • ½ tsp cardamom powder

  1. Wash the rice until clear.

  2. Add rice to a medium sized pot and add 16 cups of water and half the ghee/oil

  3. Bring to boil and then turn heat down to simmer without a lid, stirring occasionally for at least 2 hours, more if possible (you can keep adding water). You want it to look gelatinous and soupy

  4. Towards the end add the sugar and spice powders and the remaining ghee.

  5. Simmer for another half an hour and then serve hot for breakfast, and throughout the day if

    desired and hungry.

**If you are Vegan then organic (untoasted) Sesame oil is the alternative oil to use in all the below recipes.
